Your website is the most visible piece of your business’s web presence.  Therefore, it’s important to plan what information you want on the site, what the layout will look like and how you’ll connect each part of the information together.

 

These five elements of a successful web presence will help

 

 

ensure that your first impression is a good one.

 

 

Target Audience

 

Knowing your target audience is one of the most important first steps to creating the content for your website. 

  • Who would use your product and services? 

  • Is there a specific age group or profession or specialization of people who would benefit the most from your products and services? 

  • What is their location?

A most effective business website can be used to capture potential leads.  As your site grows, it becomes a community for your target audience.  Connect with potential customers and find a way to continue marketing to them. 

 

 

The Website

 

Once you have established the goals for your website, you can begin to explore specific elements for a strong website.

 

The “Home” page will be the initial point of contact with your target audience.  Your home page should answer the questions:

 

  • What do you do?

  • Why should your target audience trust you?

 

Your target audience makes a split-second decision on whether they’ll stay to learn more or go to your competition, and therefore you want to keep their interest.

 

The “About” page reinforces further the trust factor.  Explain exactly what your company does in-depth.  Your target audience wants to know who you are, why you do what you do and what makes you special.  The purpose of this page is to impress your target audience.

 

The “Contact” page should explain to your target audience how to get in touch with you.  Make sure it includes your phone number, email address, street address and any other way people can reach you.  You can even include a Google Map with directions to your business.

 

 

The Blog

 

The best way to set your business apart from your competition is to create a blog.  Most importantly, adding a blog on a weekly or monthly basis keeps your website ranking higher in the search engines.

 

Blogs show your target audience that you know what you’re talking about.  It helps you identify yourself as an expert.  A blog is constantly updated.  Most importantly, it gives your target audience a reason to come back to your site. 

 

Your target audience want to more about what your product and/or service does.  They want to know how to you’re your product and/or service.  Most of all, they want to know how your product and/or service can make their life easier.

 

The more you share your knowledge and expertise by writing a blog, the more likely your target audience are to buy from you.

 

 

The Newsletter

 

Newsletters are another very effective element to building leads from your website’s visitors.

 

There are many email marketing programs for sending out newsletters that you can use such as MailChimp, ConstantContact or Aweber.  Research and choose the program that best meets your specific needs.  Email marketing is one of the most effective ways to generate sales.

 

Once visitors to your site sign up for your email list, you can offer them specials and keep them up to date on new products and services or changes.

 

 

Social Media

 

Social Media also help to capture leads.  The most popular social networks are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Instagram.  Your blog links your audience to your respective social media profiles to build connections.

 

Businesses with a Facebook page can include links to your website or a “call me” link or a “send a message” link.  Twitter has a “Follow Me on Twitter” button that can be added to your Twitter page.  These are important features to help readers become a connected customer.

 

Include links to your social media profiles on your website to maximize your website’s effectiveness and keep readers connected.
