Effective Email Marketing Strategies

November 2, 2017

There are many different email marketing platforms available if you decide you want to email to your clients or visitors to your website on a weekly or monthly basis.  MailChimp, ConvertKit, AWeber, vCita, and Infusionsoft are the most popular and most are very straight forward and user-friendly to use.

Setting up your email software is only the beginning, but you must know how to use it the right way. You must to be able to get people onto your list, send them relevant messages and give them something to do.  Here are the top email marketing tips that will help you accomplish that.

Direct Them to Your List

First, you must get people to sign up for your mailing list. You can offer freebies or offer free webinars.  Find things that interest your audience so that they will want to sign up to your list.

Write Meaningful Subject Lines

If you want your emails opened, then you will have to learn how to write subjects lines that intrigue your audience.  Your subject lines must speak to your audience and mean something to them or they won’t open your emails.

Always Proofread

Nothing is worse than sending out an email to your entire list and realizing later that you made a horrible grammar or spelling error.  Always proofread your email at least twice.  It would be even better if you could have someone read through it before you send.

Abide by the Spam Laws

If you aren’t sure what the spam laws are, take some time to look them up. Most autoresponder software enforces spam laws, but make sure you know the laws yourself.

Don’t Bombard Your Email List

Only send out information when needed, never send an email without a purpose or point.  However, make sure you send out an email at least once a week or your audience might forget about you.

Write Focused Messages

If you don’t know your purpose it will be difficult to write a focused message. There should be a reason for every email that you send out.  One email might tell your audience about a new product you are launching.  Another email might talk about an event you are hosting or appearing at.   Always have a reason.

Include a CTA

Each email you send out needs to have a clear call to action (CTA).  It may be to go like your Facebook Page, or to buy your new product.  Make sure you are very clear about what you want your audience to do and limit it to one and no more than a maximum of two.

Segment Your Lists

As you collect information from your audience and add them to your list, you need to set up segments.  For example, you’ll want to keep track of how each person signed up to your list. You may send the same emails to all your lists, but you have the option to personalize emails to each segment based on their interests.

Email is your most important marketing material. Keep it simple and don’t over complicate it. Send information to your email list, send it regularly, make it purposeful, and never forget your CTAs.  You need to make sure that what you are doing gets your audience’s attention so that they open your emails and take action.
